RECENT REVIEWS (Restaurant & B&B)
We tried the Red Lion out for a ‘Sunday Lunch’. The Red Lion at Newbrough was an excellent find on the old Stanegate road, what a marvellous chef! classically trained brilliant cheese soufflés, marvelous deserts (the panacotta was first class) and the Sunday lunch was among the best I have had, beef cooked to perfection! terrific yorkshire puddings and beautifully seasoned gravy. I thoroughly recommend the Red Lion and look forward to returning.

Autumn break in Pennines Four of us stayed this weekend for couple of nights. We arrived Friday teatime on motorbikes. Freezing cold and wet. First impressions were a very welcoming and warm bar area. Log fire burning. We were greeted by Sue the landlady. Made very welcome and show to our rooms. Radiators in room lovely and hot. Our stay was excellent. The rooms were clean and well presented. Lots of hot water for bath/shower. Pre booked a table both nights for an evening meal. The food was delicious and freshly prepared by our landlord Andy. Would highly recommend The Red Lion. We all agreed to return. Must also mention the breakfast. Good choice and delicious. Cooked by Sue. Yummy.

Location was perfect for Hadrian's Wall experience. Will be backPosted on Alan C16 August 2025Verified A thoroughly enjoyable short stay. Beautifully, comfortable, en-suite room (room 1) complete with everything that you might need. Very friendly staff and locals. Lots of good advice on walks etc. and a lively bar in the evening. Delicious food, at dinner and at breakfast. Book direct for a great rate, and DO book for dinner. Plenty of outside seating which we used during our 2 day stay. Sue and Andy made our short stay very enjoyable.Posted on edgemoor_1112 June 2025Verified Excellent 5* service. Really friendly owners and staff. Immaculately clean room and well appointed. Not only for work but with family. Quick check in and out, var area nice and friendly, nothing to much trouble.Posted on Ann N13 April 2025Verified Amazing Just home n Edinburgh after staying in The Red Lion in Newbrough. Where do I start. It was one of the nicest B&B’s we have stayed in. Our room with an en-suite with a bath a rare occurrence these days. The room was well decorated and extremely clean. The en-suite was so clean and fresh and the bed was one of the comfiest I’ve slept in. My husband and I both had a brilliant sleep. We had our meal in the dining room and it was absolutely delicious. We were there with friends and their opinions are exactly the same as ours. The men both had the steak and ale pie with chips and their faces said it all “pure heaven”. Myself along with my friend both had The Mediterranean 5 bean hotpot with chips. What can I say it was so so delicious. We will definitely be thinking of going back as it was worth every single penny. I would definitely recommend that if you if you are in the area stay and have a meal there. I can guarantee that you will definitely not be disappointed.Posted on Vacation3699085021425 March 2025Verified Great place to stay Stayed in this gorgeous pub for 3 nights for my daughters wedding. There is nothing not to like about this place. The room was excellent. Clean and spacious with lovely toiletries and hot drinks facilities. Breakfast was first class with a choice but went for full nortumbrian every morning. The bar is warm and cosy and friendly too. Very handy for visiting hadrians wall or the historic town of Hexham.Posted on David T11 September 2024Verified A great stay in a pretty village The Red Lion is Grade 1 listed building so has plenty of character. I thought the evening meal was expensive for what is was (quite a small souffle). The location is great for visiting all the Roman forts and Hadrian's Wall in the area. The room was very comfortable and the bed in particular was very good. A great breakfast was served in the morning.Posted on Alan C18 August 2024Verified Friendly staff and excellent roast dinner Visited the Red Lion today for Sunday lunch, with my wife and youngest son who is visiting from China, we both had the roast beef and my wife a small roast pork. The beef was excellent, tender and plenty of it, loads of veg plus meal came with two Yorkshire puds and very good gravy. My son had sticky toffee pudding and ice cream for dessert which was stupendous. The pub is dog friendly. If you’re in the area well worth a visit.Posted on FamilyFunEdinburgh9 July 2024Verified Terrific food with friendly service - definitely recommend eating here. Delicious freshly cook food with friendly service. We ate here two nights in a row both equally good. The pies, the salmon, the lamb hotpot, cooked freshly, arrived piping hot, ordered extra veg, served al dente. Try to save room for the crumble, sticky toffee pudding or the chocolate orange mousse all of which will delight. Special thanks for allowing us drinks in the evening sun, then calling us inside when our food was ready. Would thoroughly recommend for honest, well Cooked food, served with genuine care. Thank for taking such good care of us.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
